Britain is bracing for a monster snowstorm and blizzards as severe weather, including rain and ice, threaten to cause misery for swathes of the country.
Temperatures are set to plunge to -15C in Scotland and -6C in England during an Arctic freeze that has triggered six days of weather warnings.
The Met Office has issued snow and ice warnings for central and northern parts of the UK, with as much as 16ins (40cm) possible over the highest ground and up to 2ins (5cm) at lower levels.
Rural communities could become cut off if roads become impassable, drivers should expect treacherous conditions and delays, and power cuts may occur, forecasters warned.
