Lee Isaac Chung’s critically acclaimed family drama “Minari” will be the festival centerpiece film and “Concrete Cowboy” starring Idris Elba will be the Friday Spotlight film, while Regina King’s feature directorial debut, “One Night in Miami” has been selected as the Saturday Spotlight film.Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the festival will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual screenings, conversations and events.

It’s still very early, but it’s impossible not to take notice of what Chloe Zhao’s film Nomadland is doing right now. The fall film festival season has launched other movies, like Regina King’s One Night in Miami…, but none like Nomadland. Today, the flick added a pretty big feather in its cap, taking the prestigious Audience Award from the Toronto International Film Festival (with the aforementioned One Night in Miami… as runner up). Pete Hammond Awards Columnist/Chief Film CriticAs expected Chloe Zhao’s Venice Golden Lion winner Nomadland took the often Oscar-predictive Toronto International Film Festival People’s Choice Award announced this morning. Regina King’s One Night In Miami was second ,and  Beans was third in the slimmed down competition at the fest which had about a sixth of the number of films in play than usual.

And there we have it. After going home with the Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month, Chloé Zhao‘s “Nomadland” just took the coveted People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival 2020.
