A Tory minister appears to have rushed through approval for a controversial property deal on behalf of a millionaire party donor so the development would avoid a local community tax, newly released papers suggest.
Robert Jenrick tonight agreed to release correspondence relating to the Westferry Printworks development, planned by millionaire mogul Richard Desmond in East London.
The redevelopment, said to be worth £1 billion, was approved in January by Mr Jenrick against the recommendation of a planning inspector.
The local council in Tower Hamlets were set to introduce a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) the day after Mr Jenrick stepped in and approved the plan.
