A three-inch chip that zaps your spinal cord 5million times a day could spell the end of back and leg pain. The revolutionary Evoke device can sense when users are in pain – before automatically adjusting in response.

Experts reckon it could reduce pain by more than 80% in just a year of use. The breakthrough brings fresh hope to Britain’s 28million chronic pain sufferers.

Two of the experimental implants have already been given to UK patients. Dr Ashish Gulve, a consultant in pain management at James Cook University Hospital, performed the operation.
