Third dose of existing Oxford Covid jab 'could provide further protection'

coronavirus, new research has found. An Oxford University study found that giving people an additional dose six months after the second jab led to a ‘substantial rise’ in antibodies to fight against Covid - without the need to tweak the vaccine.

There was also evidence to show that it would give more protection against ‘variants of concern’, including the Delta variant.Professor Sir Andrew Pollard of the Oxford Vaccine Group said that it is not yet known whether people will be required to have a booster jab in the Autumn.

Real-world data from Public Health England shows that two doses already offer good protection against serious illness and death from both the Alpha and Delta variants.
