Albaray, which I haven’t previously tried. On the website, to be honest, it didn’t appear all that. I thought the crochet-effect stitch might make it look a bit Trad Granny or Macramé Granny, and while I know teens love a Trad Granny look, and generally speaking, grannies are a good thing, I don’t want to look like a TG.But I can never resist a stripe, which I find much easier to live with and more flattering than most other prints.
So I thought, why not give it a go? I’m so glad I did.Everything about this jumper comes together to make it a clever wardrobe investment.
It’s the right length (on anyone 5ft 6in or under) to wear over dresses (I’ve tried wearing baggy long jumpers over dresses and I can’t do it; I’m too small).
It’s great with skirts, especially A-lines. It also looks chic with high-waisted trousers, which frankly are the only trousers I’m wearing from here on in, no matter what happens at the high table of fashion – not least because they make legs look longer and accentuate waists, but also because there’s a jaunty ’70s smartness about the combination of high-waisted tailored trousers and a neat, boxy jumper. The contemporary combination of colours in the stripes is also cheering without being garish, and makes the jumper easy to match, or mismatch, with plain separates.
