Two huge super trawlers capable of plundering thousands of tonnes of fish from British waters - 14 times the size of UK boats - are fishing off the south coast of England leading to fears of a “ecological disaster.” The 7,127 tonne Dutch-registered Afrika vessel, which measures 126 metres long by 17 metres wide, has been fishing off the coast of Brighton in the English Channel since Sunday morning.
It was joined earlier this week by another Dutch-registered super trawler - the Willem Van Dee Zwan - a colossal 9,494 tonne ship measuring over 142 metres long and is nearly 20 feet wide.
