Tens of thousands of British men are putting themselves at risk of growing breasts by abusing steroids with their penis size also potentially being affected, according to experts.

Most of steroid users consume the drug with the misconception that it is beneficial for them. However, they have no idea that it exerts negative impact on their reproductive and hormonal health.Anabolic steroids are prescription-only medicines that are sometimes taken without medical advice to increase muscle mass and improve athletic performance.“Anabolic steroids are manufactured drugs that copy the effects of the male hormone testosterone,” explains the NHS.It continued: “They have limited medical uses and are not the same as corticosteroids, a different type of steroid drug that's more commonly prescribed.”Latest research by the National IPED Info Survey in 2017 found at least 900,000 people in the UK are taking and other PEDs (Performance Enhancing Drugs).Side effects reportedly include:A common side effect of steroid abuse in men is the development of breast tissue, known medically as gynaecomastia or 'gyno' in the bodybuilding scene.Dr John Skevofilax, chief surgeon at Signature Clinics, claimed a growing number of men abusing the drugs are coming to him for breast reduction surgery.Dr Skevofilax has carried out more than 600 gynecomastia operations since 2020 but believes many more are suffering in silence, too ashamed to come forward.He said: “Tens of thousands of men are at risk of gynecomastia because they are taking IPEDs [image and performance enhancing drugs].“Many don't seek any advice before.
