Nadia Bokody lifted the lid after her nude snap was removed on Instagram. The Australian writer claimed her post had been taken down with a warning on breaching its policy around "sexual solicitation".
She was confused since a completely nude photo shared by singer Jack Vidgen remained on the social media platform.Writing for news.com.au, Nadia said: "I was feeling uncharacteristically at ease in my body while away on my first solo holiday. "I took a few snaps, picked one I liked, censored it and nervously hit post."But while Vidgen's story stayed live for the rest of the day, a few hours later, my post had disappeared."I received a notification that read, 'Your post goes against our guidelines on adult sexual solicitation'."Nadia spoke about how the photos had their similarities, with nearly identical posing and exposed skin, although hers showed less. She said that the man's naked body could exist, while a woman couldn't be unclothed without it "being sexual".
The writer appealed the removal and had the post reinstated, but within 24 hours it was taken down again, she told the publication. This time there was a more ominous warning from Instagram that her account would be deleted, Nadia claimed.
The Australian had reached out to Instagram for some answers but was met with a "very different response". A Meta spokesperson told her: "Your content was removed in error, and we have since reinstated it."Overall, we don't allow nude images on Instagram or Facebook, but our nudity policies have become more nuanced over time."Our policies are designed to ensure content on Instagram is appropriate, while allowing a global community to express themselves.
