F1 boss Giancarlo Minardi believes four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel “should retire” from the sport. The Aston Martin driver had a performance to forget at the Australian Grand Prix, which unravelled into one of his worst performances of all time.

The German returned to the grid after missing the first two races of the season due to Covid-19, but got off to the worst start imaginable at Albert Park. After being penalised for his pre-race scooter ride around the track, he was deemed guilty of speeding in the pit lane.

Aston Martin pair Vettel and Lance Stroll crashed four times between them over the weekend, and former team boss Minardi believes the former should quit the sport after retiring his car in the 23rd lap of Sunday’s race.Speaking to Corriere della Sera, the 74-year-old said: "He was unlucky to have missed two grands prix because of Covid."But he should retire.

He has a lot of money, he has won titles and he will never win again.”Vettel crashed in FP2 and then during the race, leading him to suggest his lack of time with the car was partly to blame.
