Weather forecasters have issued Brits with a "thunderstorms expected" warning as conditions look set to get lively before a scorching heatwave.Despite the grim weather to come this week, it is thought that the UK will experience its hottest day of the year after the storms pass.

Netweather have said that there is a "risk of hail and lightning" today in parts of the country. In their thunderstorm warning, meteorologist Nick Finnis said "some heavy showers or thunderstorms" could develop across England and Wales, particularly the Midlands, South and East of England.

Luckily, he went on to clarify: "Thunderstorms likely to be isolated given shallow nature of convection."He added: "Surface water flooding also possible with any storms, particularly following earlier persistent rain.

A low risk of lightning possible elsewhere from heavier showers – more particularly N. Ireland."Netweather say they only issue such warnings when "there is a risk of storms or severe convective weather".Forecasters all agree that conditions should start picking up from tomorrow (May 13), ahead of a blistering start to next week.
