The directors of the International Football Association Board have now extended the amendment to the laws of the game to cover league competitions ending on or before July 31, 2021, and to international competitions scheduled for July and August of the same year.
It will be up to the individual tournaments about whether they introduce the rule but it would allow the SPFL and SFA to bring it into their respective competitions for the new campaign.
The move was supported by SFA chief Ian Maxwell when it was initially proposed back in April.It's not yet clear whether IFAB will look to extend the rule into further seasons with many managers in the English Premier League.
