Peter Kosminsky, the BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated director and screenwriter, has known Mantel for “many, many years,” he told Variety over the phone on Friday. Kosminsky directed the Golden Globe-winning BBC and PBS drama “Wolf Hall,” and the pair have been collaborating more recently on a BBC adaptation of “The Mirror and the Light,” which covers the last four years of the life of Thomas Cromwell (played by Mark Rylance), before his fall from grace and death by execution in 1540.

The word ‘great’ is used very easily these days but nobody could dispute that it’s an appropriate epithet for Dame Hilary Mantel. If you look at the scale of her achievements, the impact she’s had, the breadth of her knowledge and reading… She’s someone whom people went to for thoughts and opinions on a variety of different novels ad nonfiction works. People recognized her for the massive intellect as she was. It’s hard to imagine a world without her.”

Back then, Olivia unwound with a glass of red wine; as if to flex the looser, loucher possibilities of streaming, Emayatzy Corinealdi’s Jax Stewart ends her day with a cigarette. That seems an apt distillation of a series that’s charged with a nervy energy; “Reasonable Doubt” places Corinealdi’s very flawed protagonist at its center and watches as she generates smoke, and steam. Jax is a former public defender who now works in high-profile criminal defense in Los Angeles; her attention is divided between her caseload and her attraction to a man she once defended, incarcerated for many, years but still a vivid part of her life.

EJ Panaligan editor Disney Music Group has teamed up with Deaf West Theatre, a Tony award-winning company, to release an American Sign Language version of the hit song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Walt Disney Animation’s “Encanto” in celebration of Friday’s International Day of Sign Languages. The video features an all-deaf Colombian and Hispanic cast, utilizing both American Sign Language and Colombian Sign Language to add additional layers of authenticity to the song. The sung English lyrics were translated into ASL and CSL by a team of sign language choreographers who worked through the text to find an accurate signed translation of the song for the video.
