New Order, The Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets and more set to appear at their own stalls.News of the market was first shared last month, when it was confirmed that Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess had organised an event where bands could sell their merchandise for free and keep 100 per cent of the income.Taking place on May 25 from 11am, entry to the market is free and will see a number of artists run their own stalls and sell their own merchandise to fans. For Burgess, his stall will contain a number of rarities that he’s collected over the years, five Charlatans ‘Sproston Green’ sports bags and more, and he will also deliver a live show at the event.Participating venues holding stalls, live performances and on-stage interviews include O2 Ritz Manchester, Gorilla, Dog Bowl and more.Now, NME can exclusively reveal that a huge number of artists have been confirmed as taking part in Merch Market 2025 including New Order, A Certain Ratio, BMX Bandits, Inspiral Carpets and more.The solo artists and members of each band will be appearing at the event, running the stalls themselves, selling merchandise to fans, and taking part in other activities across the site.For New Order, drummer Stephen Morris and keyboardist/guitarist Gillian Gilbert will be hosting the stall, as well as doing an on-stage interview with Dave Haslam.Discussing the event, organiser Tim Burgess said: “Merch is a key element that can help bands thrive and survive in a world where income from actual music is lower than ever.

The Witcher star Freya Allan is set to play Marianne Faithfull in the upcoming Zaida Bergroth-directed biopic, Marianne.A stalwart of the Swinging London arts and music scene in the 1960s, Faithfull became one of the leading female artists during the British Invasion era, and died last month, aged 78.Tributes poured out for the late singer, who had her first hit with the Mick Jagger–Keith Richards composition ‘As Tears Go By’, with Blur‘s Graham Coxon, The Charlatans‘ Tim Burgess, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Ed Harcourt, Warren Ellis, Ronnie Wood, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sir Paul McCartney, Morrissey, Metallica and more all penning personal tributes.Finnish director Zaida Bergroth (Tove) is now set to direct a biopic, titled Marianne, chronicling the life of the London singer. The project is now in pre-production, and British actor and musician Jojo Macari (Sex Education) is attached to star as Jagger.“From angel-innocent pop icon, actress of stage and screen and long-time muse and girlfriend of Mick Jagger, to homelessness, addiction, and ignominy,” a synopsis for the film reads, per Variety.“Marianne will depict Marianne Faithfull’s rollercoaster ride from the brightest lights of the wild 1960s of her youth, to fallen golden girl and then her remarkable phoenix-like rise and resurgence” that “establishes her as one of the great icons and true artists of our time.”The film is being produced by Julia Taylor-Stanley – who had previously worked on a Faithfull biopic that fell apart – and Finnish producer Roosa Toivonen.

Robert Smith will join Tim Burgess for a special run-through of The Cure‘s acclaimed ‘Songs Of A Lost World‘ on an upcoming edition of Tims Listening Party, NME can exclusively reveal.Becoming a favourite among music fans on social media during lockdown as Tim’s Twitter Listening Parties, the format of The Charlatans frontman talking through new and classic albums with the artists behind them found a new home as a podcast and show on Absolute Radio last year.Now, it has been confirmed that Smith has recorded a special version of the show that will be broadcast from 10pm this weekend on Sunday December 8 on Absolute Radio before becoming available on the Rayo app shortly after and being made into a podcast early in the new year.“I’m looking forward very much to my second Listening Party,” Smith told NME, “running through ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ with Tim – this time together in a ‘real life space’ – should be good?”This comes after Smith hosted a run-through of Tim’s Twitter Listening Party for their classic album ‘Wish’ back in November 2022, done from the dressing room after The Cure played the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. It became the third most replayed Listening Party with over 40,000 so far (with Iron Maiden occupying the top two places).

Courteeners, English Teacher and Louis Tomlinson were among the acts to be honoured at the first-ever Northern Music Awards.The inaugural ceremony – hosted by the UK’s largest music therapy charity, Nordoff And Robbins – took place at the Albert Hall in Manchester last night (April 23) to celebrate northern artists, festivals, venues and industry figures.Presented by BBC Radio 6 Music DJ Chris Hawkins, the event featured live performances from Courteeners frontman Liam Fray, as well as English Teacher, Lisa Stansfield, The K’s and more.Guest presenters from the region included former Manchester United footballer Gary Neville, New Order‘s Gillian Gilbert and Stephen Norris, and Grimsby-born actor Thomas Turgoose (This Is England). ‌ Neville awarded Courteeners with the Band Of The Year prize.
