An NRL star has had his season cut prematurely after being on the receiving end of a “hip-drop tackle” by his girlfriend’s brother.During a friendly contest, St George Illawarra Dragons' Tyrell Fuimaono took out Haze Dunster, with the Parramatta Eels player damaging his anterior, posterior and medial cruciate ligament, rendering him out for the rest of the season. The hip drop tackle technique involves a player clinging onto the hips of the opposition in possession of the ball then forcibly, dropping their body weight onto the ball carrier’s legs.
What typically happens is that the attacker’s legs can become trapped under the defender's body - just what happened to Dunster. The tackle in question was considered a ‘grade-three dangerous contact charge’ by a match review committee, meaning that Fuimaono will be banned for five matches if he makes a guilty plea.
But this could go up to seven games if he chooses to contest the charge. To make matters worse, Dunster has been dating Taliah, another professional rugby league player and Fuimaono's sister, for six years.
It was confirmed would undergo surgery in the coming days prior to 'an extended rehabilitation program'.But despite the extent of injury, some online users, however, said that the tackle was in the realms of the law.One wrote: “I have no idea what is wrong with that tackle - just because somebody has got hurt doesn’t mean it’s a penalty.”Another asked: “What was wrong with the tackle ????”Do you Fuimaono should be banned for the rest of the season?
