The Queen plans to spend “much more” time at her favourite Highlands cottage at Balmoral, as she marks 70 years on the throne.
Craigowan Lodge on the Balmoral estate is said to be one of the monarch’s favourite homes, with the 95 year old usually spending time at the cottage twice a year - every April and for two weeks in summer.
One source now claims that the lodge has been getting some upgrades so the the Queen can spend more time there, including a £20,000 wheelchair lift, a new security gate and a state of the art intercom system.The lift can reportedly carry three people standing or one using a wheelchair, meaning the Queen would be able to get to her bedroom without climbing the stairs.
A Balmoral insider told The Sun: “For many years we have thought it would be the perfect place for the Queen to spend more time when she’s older.
