Rishi Sunak is in talks to end a 10-year freeze on fuel duty, in a move that could hike prices for millions of motorists as they return to work following the coronavirus outbreak.

The Chancellor is currently deliberating on a 5p hike, which would be announced in his Autumn Budget and introduced in March 2021.

The increase would automatically add 2p a litre at the pumps, as the price would go up in line with inflation. But a Treasury source told The Sun it has plans for an extra 3p on top.
