Piers' exit from the show followed his controversial comments regarding Meghan Markle after her interview with Oprah last year, and since his exit, a permanent replacement is yet to be named.

Fans of the Now You See Me movies will be pleased to hear that the franchise is finally getting its third film.

A second sequel to the film Now You See Me is said to be happening over at Lionsgate. The project has a new writer in Eric Warren Singer, the man behind the likes of American Hustle and the forthcoming Top Gun: Maverick.

Last year, Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots co-starred in one of the best films you likely never saw. That was The Art of Self-Defense, among the most underrated movies of 2019 and a truly terrific tale. Today, they team up again in a similarly unique title, though subject matter wise, it’s as different as can be. Both are terrific though, suggesting that a pairing of Eisenberg and Poots is a consistently strong recipe for success. The collaboration is in Vivarium, an exercise in weirdness that quickly becomes hypnotic. Hitting Video On Demand today, it’s another very strong option for new release viewing this weekend.

Like the revelation that the dowdy French-cuisine evangelist Julia Child worked for American intelligence operations during World War II, there's something quaint and almost comic about the historical nugget upon which Jonathan Jakubowicz's Resistance is based: Before he became the most famous mime artist in history, Marcel Marceau worked in the French Resistance, forging passports and smuggling Jewish children across borders to save them from Nazi exterminators.

On paper, everything about Resistance suggests a surefire Academy Award juggernaut. After all, it’s a film that has multiple Oscar nominees in the cast, is set during World War II, centers on the plight of European Jews against the Nazis, and is a biopic of a famous person in the arts. Start carving the statue now, right? Well, not so fast. While Resistance is worthy of a recommendation, it’s mostly a decent picture elevated by a really strong performance by Jesse Eisenberg. Hitting VOD tomorrow, it’s a would be prestige player that can scratch the itch for classy cinema during an otherwise rough (for so many reasons) late March.

An artistic endeavor built around the very notion of tight time constraints has come up with its own instant response to the coronavirus pandemic. The 24 Hour Plays: Viral Monologues will launch tonight, with a game cast of 20 actors performing original works written, filmed and premiered all in the space of a single day and adhering to the cautionary requirements of social distancing.

But in 1938-’39, when World War II rescue drama “Resistance” takes place, Jewish-born Marcel Mangel was just 15 years old (two decades younger than actor Jesse Eisenberg, who plays him here) and had not yet adopted his stage name, much less the stage. As it happens, this would be the most exciting chapter of his life — and one about which the tight-lipped performer seldom spoke — making for a fresh entry point to an otherwise familiar if ever relevant subject.

Welcome to the third month of the year, ladies and gentlemen. Yes, we’ve somehow already made it to March! As I’ve said in the past, this is a month where we sometimes can get a preview of the summer movie season. We’ve actually got an intriguing mix of items here. Awards type fare is still a few months off, however, so blockbusters are on the horizon here (with one or two potential exceptions). Sometimes that means a big downturn in quality, but I can actually vouch for some of these March releases are really solid. It’s a pretty interesting slate, overall…
