mum says she's "terrified" of being in her own home as a horde of rats have overrun the property. Kathryn Bottrill, 28, has had to move her family out of the home in Seaham, County Durham after the rodents caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.

The mum-of-two says they have been made "homeless" by the infestation, which started around nine weeks ago when the rats started coming in through holes in her garden shed and loft.

Since then the vermin have managed to destroy furniture in the home, eat through clothes including the kids' school uniforms and leave droppings everywhere, reports ChronicleLive.

Kathryn said: "Hearing the rats at night when I'm trying to go to sleep has been absolutely terrifying. The kids don't want to be there, they are absolutely petrified."I haven't lived in the property for three weeks now.
