We’re used to seeing portraits of the Queen dressed up in jewels and diamonds with a bright smile on her face but in one controversial painting, Her Majesty looks less than impressed.
The Queen has a brilliant sense of humour, but this infamous portrait shows her looking downright displeased. The controversial piece, painted in 1988 by British artist Norman Hutchinson, sparked a a storm due to its ‘stern’ depiction of the monarch and after years in storage, it's now on sale.
Norman argued he’d played to the Queen’s strengths, but one critic went as far as suggesting said she looked as ‘dour’ as Queen Victoria.
