Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.
He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.
Queen has officially handed Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, the first of Meghan Markle's royal roles from before she dramatically left The Firm.
After Meghan and Prince Harry announced they were stepping back from their roles as working royals at the start of 2020 several of their patronages seemed up in the air.
Now the process of reassigning them is underway, with Camilla now being made royal patron of the National Theatre by Her Majesty.It follows a trend of the Queen giving her daughter-in-law more responsibility as of late.Marking her historic Platinum Jubilee last month she announced that Camilla would become Queen Consort once Prince Charles ascends the throne.This latest role is seemingly perfect for Camilla - a well known supporter of the arts - with the National Theatre saying they are delighted by the move.Rufus Norris, director and joint chief executive of the National Theatre, said: “It is a privilege to welcome the Duchess of Cornwall as the National Theatre’s Royal Patron.“The duchess shares our belief that theatre enriches our lives in so many ways and that everyone should have access to the arts and creativity no matter where they are in the world.“The duchess has shown great support to our industry throughout the pandemic, and I look forward to working with Her Royal Highness for many years to come.“I would also like to express my thanks to the Queen for Her Majesty’s long and unwavering support and service to the National Theatre.” The National Theatre has long had a close relationship with the Royal Family, dating back to its earliest days at the Old Vic in the 1960s.
The Queen's last visit to the iconic venue came in 2013 when she appeared alongside Prince Phillip to mark its 50th anniversary.
