Queen could abdicate – but reckons Her Majesty will keep attending virtual events.Jennie Bond, who spent 14 years as royal correspondent for BBC News, said the 95-year-old Queen has grown increasingly "frail".Talking on GB News, she described the "drastic" circumstances that would have to occur for the Queen to retire from her role, suggesting she might abdicate if her "mental powers" were affected.Ms Bond said: "We are witnessing the transition of many of the responsibilities of the monarchy."Prince Charles, 73, is increasingly taking a leading role in public events such as the Royal Maundy service on Thursday (April 14).Buckingham Palace announced the Queen would not attend and it was down to the Prince of Wales and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, to represent the Royal Family.
Despite attending fewer events in person, the Queen seems very determined to continue with her duties.Ms Bond continued: "She is not going to abdicate in my view unless something really drastic happens and she loses perhaps her mental powers."But thanks to modern technology she can continue to reign and to be in touch and to interact with people because she can do it remotely."She is enjoying that, I think.
