By Ted Johnson Prosecutors added a charge of second degree murder against former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd, while filing new charges of “aiding and abetting” against three other officers at the scene.
Chauvin, the officer who was seen kneeling on Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes, as Floyd said that he could not breathe, was arrested on Friday and charged with third degree murder and second degree manslaughter.
But Minnesota’s Attorney General, Keith Ellison, has since taken the lead on the case, and was expected to hold a press conference on Wednesday afternoon to announce the new developments.
