Premier League clubs are poised to approve trials of permanent concussion substitutions for the second half of the season this week.
The recent incident involving Wolves ' Raul Jimenez and Arsenal's David Luiz once again highlighted the need to address the issue.
Jimenez fractured his skull while Luiz played on despite sustaining a deep cut. But IFAB - the people in charge of football's laws - are ready to approve the rule change on Wednesday.
IFAB said last month that their panels were supportive of trailing the idea and wanted it implemented "as soon as possible".
