The Premier League will announce this week it won't block Amanda Staveley's Saudi-backed £300m takeover of Newcastle. And that will herald the consortium of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, UK-based billionaires the Reuben brothers and Staveley succeeding Mike Ashley as the new owners of the Magpies.
Five weeks after the two parties formally agreed a deal and papers were registered at Companies House, the long-drawn out process is reaching its conclusion.
A period of exclusivity which was granted to the group ends this week but that is now irrelevant since all the necessary documents have been signed, meaning only the Premier League itself could stop the takeover going through.
