Fresh doubt has been cast on the Newcastle takeover after it emerged the Premier League wrote to the United States Government warning about Saudi Arabian “piracy.” The revelation comes as Premier League bosses consider a £300m takeover of Newcastle involving the country’s public investment fund taking an 80 per cent stake.
It has added to serious concerns about the consortium - led by Amanda Staveley - being given the green light and being able to pass the league's owners and directors' test.
The letter from the Premier League dated February 5 asked the US to put the Saudis on a piracy “blacklist” and said they had been unsuccessful in taking action against pirate network beoutQ through the Saudi legal system.
