PR mogul Declan Kelly has resigned as the CEO and chairman of Teneo, the strategy firm he co-founded, following allegations of drunken misconduct at a fundraising concert last month.
In his resignation statement, the multi-millionaire Tipperary native, who is the brother of Labour leader Alan Kelly, said he took ‘full responsibility’ for his ‘inadvertent, public and embarrassing mistake’ at the event, and that he has apologised to the firm’s clients as well as his colleagues.
However, he said there had been ‘a campaign’ against the ‘reputation of the firm’ that ‘may continue’ in the coming days, and that he was offering his resignation with the support of his family to ‘protect the employees of Teneo and its clients’.
