With its mix of commuting students and city-bound commuters, Oxford Road has long been renowned as one of the busiest bus routes in Europe.
Thanks to road restrictions put in place in 2017 including Dutch-style cycle lanes and no-go zones for regular traffic, transport bosses managed to create on some stretches, a relatively traffic-free haven for cyclists and pedestrians.
But pollution levels in some areas remained high - as seen by this M.E.N. investigation which looked at particulate levels two years ago - and despite concerted pollution-reduction efforts by Stagecoach with its launch of a fleet of zero emission buses.
