Greater Manchester Police said in an update the victim, who is aged in her 20s, was receiving specialist support. Detectives, the force said, were 'working around the clock' to establish the full extent of the attack and who was involved.
GMP said police patrols have been stepped up and officers would remain in the area. A scene is also expected to remain in place around Kirkup Gardens off Simonsway into Wednesday evening for investigation work.
