There was a large police presence following the incident on Sale Road in Northern Moor, Wythenshawe. Witnesses described how police cars were 'shooting up and down' Sale Road at about 4pm on Sunday.
Armed officers then entered a terraced house close to Wythenshawe Park. One neighbour said: "There were police cars shooting up and down the road, then two cars parked up outside and they went into a house across the street.
