Petrol price drops by more than 4p a litre in biggest weekend fall since 2008

Petrol prices plummeted by 4p on Saturday and Sunday – which is the biggest weekend drop since 2008. On Friday, the average litre of fuel set drivers back 118.33p.

But by Monday, this cost fell to 114.01p. Diesel prices have also lowered in recent days. While it cost 120.42p per litre on Friday, the same amount of diesel can currently be picked up for 118.31p.

AA fuel price spokesman Luke Bosdet has spoken about price fluctuations during the coronavirus pandemic. He told the Mirror : "Pump prices are beginning to reflect the plunge in costs but there is much further for them to fall. “More retailers are pricing their petrol at £1 a litre, with a fuel station near Yorkgate in north Belfast reported to have joined their ranks over the
