With Shōgun, the epic drama series from FX based on James Clavell’s epic 1975 novel, veteran Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada’s work pushed past any subtitle barriers to earn the show a massive worldwide following that includes 25 Emmy nominations. Sanada stars as Lord Toranaga, the ultimate strategist, whose intricate web ultimately served to unify 17th century Japan. And Sanada was not unfamiliar with the character, since in 1989’s Oda Nobunaga, he had played Tokugawa Ieyasu, the real-life man who inspired the Toranaga character.

Singapore-based 3D Investment Partners has offered to become a majority shareholder in Japanese film company Tohokushinsha and take it private, valuing the Japanese film company at $575M.

Its bid values Tohokushinsha at $575 million. Founded in 1961, Tohokushinsha started as a dubbing house and has since expanded its business to include, among others, theatrical, video and TV distribution and production as well as operation of 10 satellite TV channels.

Production designer Helen Jarvis had never been to Japan, nor had she read James Clavell’s original novel that the series is based on. Shōgun is being developed two more seasons, FX has confirmed.FX and Disney revealed, per The Hollywood Reporter, yesterday that two more seasons of the hit historical drama series are in development, and that writer rooms are being assembled. FX will be working with late author James Clavell’s estate to piece together seasons two and three.However, this does not mean that seasons two and three of Shōgun have been confirmed, as an official renewal will be based on the progress made in the writers’ room and if all parties involved are happy with the direction that the show heads in.So far, no production has been scheduled for more episodes.
