EXCLUSIVE: The Ron Howard-directed survival thriller Eden has been acquired in a U.S. rights deal by Vertical, with the distributor plotting an August 22 nationwide theatrical release.

EXCLUSIVE: It doesn’t happen often, but Ron Howard is here in Toronto today to unveil at the Toronto Film Festival his new film Eden. What’s unusual for the Oscar winner whose films have grossed billions, is that the film is up for grabs for distribution as an acquisition title. Eden might seem a close cousin to his harrowing Thai rescue film Thirteen Lives, but this one has a sinister edge unusual for Howard. Based on a true story, Eden stars Jude Law, Sydney Sweeney, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Bruehl, Ana de Armas, Toby Wallace and Felix Kammerer as the members of three parties who flee post-WWI civilization to start over and build paradise on the Galapagos Islands. It devolves into a Lord of the Flies battle to survive the elements, and each other. Eden‘s world premiere is set for 5:45 p.m. tonight at Roy Thomson Hall.

Alex Ritman Daniel Brühl is getting back behind the camera to direct “Break,” a biopic about the tennis champion Gottfried von Cramm whose rise to stardom in the 1930s saw him face off with the Nazi regime in his native Germany. “All Quiet on the Western” front star Felix Kammerer will lead the feature, which reunites the actor, Bruhl and the team behind the Oscar-winning WWI drama.

Guillermo del Toro’s forthcoming adaptation of the horror classic Frankenstein.Australian actor Elordi has had a breakthrough year, appearing as Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, as well as the aristocratic Felix Catton in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn.Now, it has been confirmed that he will play the role of The Monster in del Toro’s new version of the 1818 Mary Shelley novel.It had already been announced that Oscar Isaac will fill the role of Victor Frankenstein in a cast that is also set to include Mia Goth (Pearl) and Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained), as well as All Quiet on the Western Front’s Felix Kammerer.Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield had initially been lined up to play The Monster, but he left the project after scheduling conflicts were brought about by the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike last year.Filming on Frankenstein, which is being produced by Netflix, is due to start in February. It will be the Mexican director’s first feature film since 2022’s Pinocchio, and his thirteenth directorial feature overall.

He’s currently the talk of the town in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn which, as well as still playing in some cinemas, is also available on Amazon Prime Video, and now it looks like Jacob Elordi is set to play the monster in Guillermo del Toro’s Dr. Frankenstein. The Dr Frankenstein film has been long in development with del Toro and following delays with the recent strikes, it finally looks like it is set to hit production soon.The news comes via Deadline who reports that Elordi will replace Andrew Garfield on the high-profile project after he left due to scheduling conflicts.

EXCLUSIVE: Jacob Elordi, Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley and Christian Convery are set to be a part of the all-star ensemble cast in Guillermo del Toro‘s Frankenstein at Netflix. Elordi will play the iconic monster, replacing Andrew Garfield, who fell out due to strike postponements that led to scheduling conflicts.

Production designer Christian M. Goldbeck gave a shout-out to All Quiet on the Western Front‘s director Edward Berger and his team of APDs following the film’s Oscar win for Best Production Design.

All Quiet on the Western Front scooped the Best International Feature Film Oscar this evening, after earlier taking the Cinematography trophy and then winning for Production Design and Original Score. Such categories in which it is also nominated, including Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay and Sound are still to be unveiled. This is the first time a German title has taken the International Feature prize since 2006’s The Lives of Others. 

German musician Volker Bertelmann nudged out the competition to pick up his first Academy Award Sunday for Netflix’s war epic All Quiet on the Western Front.

The 2023 BAFTA Film Awards longlists were unveiled this morning, and an unexpected frontrunner emerged in Netflix’s wartime epic All Quiet On The Western Front.

Director Edward Berger said that what intrigued him most about the prospect of adapting Erich Maria Remarque’s world-renowned bestselling book All Quiet on the Western Front into a film was the chance to tell the story in his native German language.

In its second week of release, All Quiet on the Western Front has entered Netflix’s Most Popular Non-English Films List in the seventh spot with 71.45M total hours viewed. For the second week in a row, the film was the #1 non-English film with 39.9M hours viewed and was in the Top 10 in 90 countries.

The harrowing new trailer for “All Quiet on the Western Front” has been released ahead of the movie’s premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Netflix’s upcoming All Quiet On The Western Front has been selected to represent Germany in the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars. Directed by Edward Berger, the anti-war movie is a new take on the classic 1929 novel by Erich Maria Remarque which was also the source material for the eponymous 1930 Best Picture Oscar-winner.
