Slowthai has announced that he will release his third album, ‘UGLY’, in March. Despite the negative connotations of the album title, he says it actually stands for “U Gotta Love Yourself”, and that he’s had the acronym tattooed underneath his eye.“The first album was the sound of where I’m from and everything I thought I knew”, he says. “The second album is what was relevant to me at that moment in time, the present.

This Town – featuring Self Esteem, Olivia Dean and various original songs – has been released.Including classic covers and brand new, original compositions from the hit Steven Knight drama, ‘This Town (Music From The Original BBC Series)’ is out now via Polydor Records. Squid have released their tense new single ‘Fugue (Bin Song)’ – listen below.An outtake from their second LP ‘O Monolith’, ‘Fugue’ dives into drummer/vocalist Ollie Judge’s interest in animism by imagining a bin coming to life: “Animism, I’m in your grip / You help me make sense of all this / I see the surface every day / Animated alive through yellow spray.”On their social media, Squid wrote: “Bin Song is now out of the bin! Some of you might remember this song that was called Fugue from our live set over the last few years, was a pretty permanent fixture for a long while!“This track never made it onto O Monolith but is taken from a session with Dan Carey at Real World in Spring 2022 + thanks to John McEntire for adding some magic.”NME reviewed ‘O Monolith’ back in June, where we said in a four-star review: “If Squid can make daring, experimental music sound as fun as this, then they will take some stopping.”Squid are due to depart on a US tour with Water From Your Eyes as support acts.

A Certain Ratio have announced their new Dan Carey-produced album ‘It All Comes Down To This’ and shared its title track.“The two of us we coexist / And it all comes down to this / All mistakes and chances missed / And it all comes down to this,” begins the track, which features a thumping beat reminiscent of Britpop and mid-00 post-punk revival.The LP, ‘It All Comes Down To This’, follows their 2023 album ‘1982’. The album was created and produced alongside Dan Carey (Fontaines DC, Wet Leg, Black Midi, Geese) who helped the band – comprised of Jez Kerr, Martin Moscrop and Donald Johnson strip down A Certain Ratio to its bones.Speaking about the album in a press release, Kerr said: “It’s the Ratio removing the safety net. Every element of everything we’ve done on this album has been a change.”Johnson added: “It wasn’t a matter of rubbing everyone else out, it was, ‘let’s find the thing that makes us work’ and we know that’s just the three of us being as basic as possible – no frills, no major overdubs.

Tool have treated fans to a rare performance of ‘Flood’.The band have just started on their massive US Arena tour, where they played Madison Square Garden on Friday (January 12). It was here that they performed ‘Flood’, a track taken off their 1993 debut ‘Undertow’.

Heartworms has shared her dark new single ‘May I Comply’ – listen to it below.The new track is the first release from Heartworms since March EP ‘A Comforting Notion’, which NME said in a five-star review was “brimming with all the promise of the next great cult act”.‘May I Comply’ arrives with an accompanying monochrome music video by Gilbert Trejo, who also directed Heartworms’ previous video ‘24 Hours’.“When I wrote this track I just wanted to get over an ex and to tell my little brother he’s good enough… turned out to be a lot darker than I thought,” Heartworms, real name Jojo Orme, shared in a press statement.Check out ‘May I Comply’ below.Gilbert Trejo added: “For ‘May I Comply’ Jojo and I wanted to lean harder into the stark black and white world that Heartworms is building, washing everything but the band out in a sea of emptiness. BBC has released a series of first look images of This Town, the new drama series from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.Set in 1981, the six-part series centres on a band’s formation against a backdrop of violence, and is described as a love letter to Birmingham and Coventry, featuring fierce new music.The cast is led by a number of rising stars, including Levi Brown (Loss and Return), Jordan Bolger (The Woman King), Ben Rose (Line of Duty) and Eve Austin (You) as its four young leads.This Town also stars Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), Nicholas Pinnock (Marcella), and David Dawson (My Policeman).In the first look images, the one above shows leads Ben Rose as Bardon Quinn, Jordan Bolger as Gregory Williams and Levi Brown as Dante Williams walking down a street.Another image shows Brown as Dante Williams in a record store, and in a third photo he’s pictured sharing a moment with Austin’s Jeannie Keefe in a dressing room.Dockery’s Estella and Pinnock’s Deuce Williams are also pictured getting ready to perform. Fontaines D.C.’s vocalist Grian Chatten made his debut solo appearance on Later…With Jools Holland last night (June 17) – check out footage below.Chatten released his first solo single ‘The Score’ in April and took to Jools Holland on Saturday night to perform follow-up track ‘Fairlies’.“I wrote ‘Fairlies’ in intense heat,” Chatten explained at the time. “Partly in Jerez, Spain, partly in LA a couple of days before a Fontaines D.C. tour kicked off.

Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten has shared his debut solo single – listen to ‘The Score’ below.The stripped-back intimate track sees the Irish singer “shift his creative process from a collaborative endeavour to a solely introspective one”, per a press release. Kae Tempest has shared a new video for their track ‘Don’t You Ever’ featuring a cameo from their dog Murphy – watch it below.The track appears on Tempest’s new album ‘The Line Is A Curve’, which came out back in April.“When I was 19, I was in a band with my friends, we used to play pubs, squats and parties in SE London where we lived,” Tempest explained of the song in a statement. “This song started its life in that band.

U.K. trio Honeyglaze's story is one of fate and chance. The band only met for the first time just three days prior to a residency at south London venue The Windmill (where bands including Black Country New Road, Sorry, and Black Midi also cut their teeth) and it was during that run that they came to the attention of Speedy Wunderground label boss Dan Carey.
