MSP is to help lead scrutiny of the Scottish Government in its response to Covid.Conservative Brian Whittle has been appointed to the new COVID-19 recovery committee.The committee will examine how the government proposes to help Scotland recover and rebuild from the effects of the pandemic as well as dealing with any legislation that relates to the country’s response to Covid.More than 900 deaths of people in Ayrshire have been linked to Covid since the start of the health crisis in March 2020.Whittle – who has previously been a member of the health & sport committee and the public petitions committee – said: "I’m pleased to be appointed to the COVID-19 recovery committee."The decisions made by parliament and the Scottish Government as we

South Ayrshire Council – after they called for a 75 per cent cut in red meat production.Brian Whittle said the message on the council's official Twitter feed was "simplistic and superficial".A furious backlash greeted the post, which also appeared on the local authority's Facebook page, with hundreds voicing their anger.Both messages were later deleted.In the posts, the council said it was supporting work towards a "carbon neutral planet by 2050".It also called for an increase in vegetable production by 75 per cent and an increase in seed and nut production by over 150 per cent.Tory politician Mr Whittle said the council's message served to "talk down the substantial efforts of Scottish farmers to rear cattle in a sustainable way".
