Free TV licence campaigners tonight vowed to press on with their fight to restore the lifeline for over-75s. The Silver Voices group has launched a petition on the gov.uk website urging the Government to honour a Tory manifesto pledge to preserve the benefit until at least 2022.
Mocking Boris Johnson's Vote Leave Brexit campaign slogan, the petition says ministers should be responsible for providing free licences rather than the BBC.
It urges: “Government should be politically accountable for benefits, not a media company. Take back control.” Silver Voices director Dennis Reed vowed to “hold the Government to account for the loss of this important universal benefit”.
