Pedestrian dies after being 'thrown into garden' by overturned car in police chase

A male pedestrian has died after allegedly being 'thrown into a garden' when he was hit by an overturned car engaged in a police chase.

The horror accident occurred last night in the Lofthouse area of Wakefield at around 5.30pm. A marked BMW X5 patrol car was in pursuit of a silver Peugeot 307 after it failed to stop when signalled by police, West Yorkshire Police say, The 22-year-old driver suffered minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The incident is currently being investigated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct. In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said: "Leeds Road is currently closed in Wakefield from Canal Lane to Broad Meadows as enquiries into the incident remain ongoing. "D
