NASA’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies has identified a giant asteroid hurtling towards Earth. The Space administration first observed the asteroid, dubbed 2020 DM4, on February 26 2020.
It predicts 2020 DM4 to be a whopping 120m to 260m wide, which is nearly 900ft across. To put that into context, the space rock could be anywhere between the size of the London Eye to the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai.
The asteroid is currently travelling at 6.39 kilometres per second, that’s roughly 14,294mph. Asteroid 2020 DM4 is expected to safely rocket past Earth on Fri 1 May at 2.05pm.
NASA classifies the asteroid as an Amor asteroid, which is a space rock that does not intercept with Earth’s orbit. After it safely passes Earth, 2020 DM4 will next
