MARCUS MUMFORD has revealed he was sexually abused at the age of six, repressing the painful memory until writing his recent single Cannibal.
He said: "Like lots of people, and I'm learning more and more about this as we go and as I play it to people, I was sexually abused as a child. "Not by family and not in the church, which might be some people's assumption.
But I hadn't told anyone about it for 30 years." The Mumford and Sons frontman told GQ mag he hit "rock bottom" in 2019 and was struggling with alcohol and his eating habits.
He has since found a therapist who he opened up to about his ordeal, which has had a huge impact on his health. After playing the song to his mother, a couple of days later she asked what the song was about.
