Liz Truss will be the next UK Prime Minister. The news was announced on Monday (September 5), as she defeated Rishi Sunak to become the third woman to hold the office, according to Deadline.

Parliament revealed the news of Liz‘ victory, and her tenure will start tomorrow, September 6, as Boris Johnson will officially leave his post.

Previously, Boris resigned his role as British PM after multiple scandals. Liz, who is the former Foreign Secretary and International Trade Secretary, won with 57% or 81,000 of the Conservative Party member base voting her in compared to 60,000 for Rishi.

In her speech after accepting her victory, Liz said it has been a “hardening campaign” during which the “depth and breadth of Conservative Party talent” was shown, while she also thanked “my friend Boris Johnson.” “I campaigned as a Conservative and will govern as a Conservative,” she added. “We need to show we will deliver, bold plan to cut taxes and grow our economy.” Liz will be the third female UK PM , following in the footsteps of Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May.
