Online auto marketplace heycar has consulted more than 10,000 drivers on their views as part of its submission to the inquiry.
Its study found 19 per cent favour a pay-per-mile system of road charging, while 28 per cent would like a flat-rate of vehicle tax – resulting in petrol, diesel, EV and hybrid owners paying the same.An increase in fuel duty was supported by 16 per cent, while road tolls were favoured by just eight per cent.Heycar editor Dan Powell said: “The Government’s commitment to remove polluting vehicles from the road means the VED system requires a major overhaul.
Currently, it’s a confusing mish-mash of different approaches. The Government would do well to listen to motorists.“Drivers understand the need for massive change.
