Motherwell polling station has pleaded guilty. Peter Conoboy placed the device in the foyer of a tower block where he lived, which was near a community centre due to be used as a voting hub for the General Election.
Residents of Glen Tower were told to leave their homes after the alarm was raised at around 12.50am on December 12 last year, with emergency services scrambled to the scene.
A controlled explosion was carried out with the device later found to be a fake. The High Court in Glasgow was told that no motive for the 45-year-old's actions had been identified.
Advocate depute Isla Davie QC told the court that the ‘bomb’ was discovered by another resident who had been making a phone call.He initially thought the Adidas shoe box.
