Increased stop-and-search powers for police in Bolton will be extended over the weekend. Senior officers authorised for powers to be stepped up yesterday (Friday) after they 'received intelligence' from communities and social media'.
Since then, 18 people have been stopped and searched in the town centre. Police said no weapons were found and no arrests were necessary.
Patrols have also been stepped up in the area. It will now last until 3pm tomorrow (Sunday). Officers can stop-search anyone in the area during that time period. It will remain under review and could be extended, police said.
