In 2018, the MOBO Organisation announced the ceremony would take a one-year hiatus, before producers revealed they were planning to hold a 'bigger, revamped show' this year amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The show returned to BBC One this year and aired at 10:45pm, after the ceremony was live streamed on YouTube earlier in the evening.

On the significance of representing black culture in the music industry, TV and radio star Maya Jama said on Tuesday's edition of The One Show: 'It’s so important.
