Charles Ingram
Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

Millionaire producers suspected Charles Ingram of cheating in final ad break before win

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? producers had already suspected Charles Ingram was cheating minutes before his win on the show in 2001 - it's claimed in ITV's new drama on the scandal, Quiz.

The moment host Chris Tarrant confirmed he'd got the final question correct, and won the million pound top prize, was met with cheers and celebrations.

But behind the scenes, the crew were already suspecting foul play and that Charles was not being honest. From odd reasons for picking answers, and him even choosing options he'd already ruled out, there were a number of things that alerted bosses to potential cheating.

It was later on that the coughing emerging from the audience was revealed to be one method being used to give Ingram the correct answers,
