Mike Ashley to 'bank £17million' from Newcastle sale - even if deal does not go through

Mike Ashley will still bank a sum in the region of £17million if Newcastle ’s proposed takeover fails to go through. Reports suggest a Saudi Arabian consortium led by Amanda Staveley are on the verge of relieving Magpies fans of Ashley’s wretched ownership, with the unpopular British tycoon accepting a £300m offer to sell the club.

Staveley and her partners, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia and the Reuben brothers, are now awaiting Premier League approval in order to seal the deal.

But according to the Daily Mail , Ashley will still pocket £17m even if the sale doesn’t go through. The original deal to buy Newcastle was reportedly valued at £340m, meaning the consortium were required to pay Ashley a five per cent deposit when
