Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
Micah Richards has admitted that he had to rely on Steven Gerrard during his first training session for England as he had bought four left-footed boots and needed a spare pair.The former Manchester City defender said that, ahead of his first-ever time with the Three Lions, he had to ask Gerrard if he had another pair of boots going as he bought the wrong ones.In his Daily Mail column about the temperament of the new Aston Villa manager, Richards wrote: “I was blessed to call Steven a team-mate when I was with England, so I got an insight into what makes him tick. "The thing that will never leave me is how he saved me ahead of my first training session by letting me use a pair of his boots."Stevie was staying in the room opposite me.
