Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,

Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.

Steven Gerrard gets Aston Villa transfer green light as ex Rangers boss sees signing rules change for him

Aston Villa chief Christian Purslow has sounded the clearest signal yet that Steven Gerrard will be allowed to splash the cash in January.

The former Rangers boss was headhunted by his former Liverpool managing director with ambitious owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawris determined to usher in a successful era in the Midlands.

And Purslow admits Gerrard will have the freedom to make signing moves in January - despite the club's previous resistance to doing business in the winter window.Villa spent big in the summer as they preempted Jack Grealish's £100m move to Manchester City by landing former Norwich star Emi Buendia, Danny Ings and jet-heeled Jamaican international Leon Bailey.
