A long-threatened severe weather warning will come into force today as ferocious gusts of up to 60mph are set to batter parts of the country.
The relentless rainfall that has marred miserable May will continue with heavy showers set to lash Britain on Thursday. But Brits can look ahead to a reported 16-day heatwave with some predictions that the mercury is going to soar in time for the Bank Holiday weekend next week.
The Met Office warned some areas to prepare for severe gusts, while "relentless" rain will lash most of the country. Met Office forecaster Clare Nasir said: "We are just about to embark on some wet and windy weather, strongest winds will be towards the south.
