GPs, social workers, police and volunteers are all still working on the frontline of the coronavirus crisis without the protection needed to keep them safe, Andy Burnham has warned.
In his update following Greater Manchester’s high-level weekly meeting on the pandemic, the mayor said that while masks and other specialist equipment now appeared to be getting through to hospitals, that was not the case in other key parts of the system.
His view was echoed privately by GPs, police officers, charity workers and senior council figures spoken to by the M.E.N, who said often there is either no protection available at all, or that it is inadequate.
